We headed from Buenos Aires down to the tip of South America (3 ½ hour flight) to Ushuaia, Argentina.  We realized we were a LONG way from home on the screen of our airplane…

Buenos Aires

We arrived safely to Buenos Aires on Oct 23rd and started our 10 day stay in the "Paris of South America."

We spent most of our time that 1st week doing an intensive Spanish Language Course through IBL (International Bureau of Language) – we decided since we would be in Spanish-speaking countries of South America for 4 months, we should learn how to “survive”! I am pretty sure that is what we are able to do – by no means will we be reading any novels!

We did a homestay with a wonderful woman (Isabel) in her apartment in the Recoletta Neighborhood & decided to play “TOURIST” every afternoon & evening when in Buenos Aires.

Down the ALASKA - CANADA Hwy - 3,600 miles Safe & Sound!

We made it safe & sound the 3,600 miles from Fairbanks to Idaho!  We were lucky to have such beautiful weather and great conditions for the drive!  We understand now why people say you have to drive the ALCAN to realize just how far away you are from the Lower 48!  We really want to thank all of our friends and families who helped us with itineraries on where to stop on the ALCAN, places to crash while we were passing through as well as the great friends who came out to say hi to us while we were in their stomping grounds!  Lastly - thanks to everyone who is watching our things - including some "stuff" - a car - and our dog! :)

THE LOGISTICS

•   Sell a House in Boise, ID (CHECK)
•   Sell a House in Fairbanks, AK  (CHECK)
•   Pack & store all of your belongings in a 10' x10' storage unit (which you won't see for a year) (CHECK)
•   Pack a Subaru Outback with EVERYTHING you will need for 1 year in just about every environment imaginable (Antarctica to Albuquerque in the summer!) - oh and then throw in the fact that that car will be traveling thousands of miles -- with our dog too! (CHECK)
•   etc. etc. etc.

The Itinerary

This is our 1 Year ADVENTURE from Oct 2013-2014 to include a 3+ month trip from Oct 2013- Jan 2014 traveling from Alaska down the ALCAN to Idaho - flying to Argentina - going to Antarctica and then a slew more countries in South America (Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuidor & Galapagos Islands) - then to Arkansas for a few months of C-130 training for Brian (Erica will do some traveling to WI and back to AK as well) then 4 months in Albuquerque, NM for CSAR training for ANG. There are a couple more stops in there as well :) And always room for some more surprise locations!
